Position Overview: We are seeking a Quarry/ Asphalt Plant Supervisor to become an integral part of our team at Tongland Quarry. Reporting to the Quarry Manager, this role is key to our operations, focusing on batching asphalt, performing general maintenance, and ensuring the smooth operation of our asphalt plant in line with our safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Batch asphalt and conduct general maintenance of the asphalt plant
- Operate a loading shovel and weighbridge, adhering to safety and operational procedures
- Assist with the overall day-to-day operations of the site, promoting our safety culture
- Operate systems according to established procedures
- Operate mobile and fixed plant (e.g., dump trucks, loading shovels, crushers, screeners) safely and efficiently
- Assist the Quarry Manager with planning, coordinating, and supporting day-to-day quarry operations
- Support the extraction, crushing, and processing of raw materials to meet production targets
- Carry out routine checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance on machinery and equipment
- Load and unload materials safely for transport or further processing
- Follow daily work schedules and production instructions, adapting to site requirements
- Conduct regular safety inspections and report hazards, defects, or incidents
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times
- Assist with site inspections, audits, and operational reporting
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised quarry site
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
- Competence in operating plant or machinery (e.g., loading shovel, excavator, dumper truck) – CPCS or MPQC card advantageous
- Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform simple maintenance tasks
- Understanding of health and safety practices and willingness to follow procedures
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Safety-focused with a responsible attitude
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
- Flexible and able to adapt to different tasks and shift patterns
Desirable
- Previous experience in quarrying, construction, mining, or similar heavy industry
- MPQC or NVQ Level 2 in Operations
- First or health & safety training (e.g., IOSH Working Safely)
