Position Overview: As a Civils Foreperson, you will possess outstanding interpersonal skills, a strong sense of teamwork, and a flexible approach to business objectives and change. The purpose of this role is to assume responsibility for the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of frontline civil engineering and construction operations. Reporting directly to the Contracts Manager, you will lead, coach, and direct site operatives while coordinating labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed on time and to specification.

This position demands an individual who understands the importance of strong leadership, effective communication, and a positive team culture. We are particularly keen to recruit someone who enjoys leading from the front and takes pride in planning, coordinating, and delivering successful civil engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise site-based civil engineering activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
  • Coordinate and manage labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors to maximise productivity and project performance.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Promote and maintain a strong health, safety, and environmental culture across all site activities.
  • Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks, and daily planning activities with operational teams.
  • Monitor progress against programme requirements and communicate any issues, delays, or resource requirements to management.
  • Maintain site records and documentation, including daily diaries, inspections, and quality checks.
  • Liaise professionally with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, and the wider project team to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Take a proactive, hands-on approach to supporting and directing site teams, providing guidance and mentoring where required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Extensive operational experience within civil engineering, construction, groundworks, infrastructure, drainage, roads, utilities, or related sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction methods, industry best practice, and relevant legislation.
  • Proven ability to manage frontline resources and optimise outputs, efficiency, quality, and profitability.
  • Competent in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and develop site teams.
  • A practical, hands-on approach with the confidence to instruct, direct, and support operatives on site.
  • Good organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet project deadlines.
