We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, compassionate, and proactive Counsellor / SEMH Support Practitioner to join our LINK Provision team. Our LINK provision supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who are able to access mainstream lessons but require targeted intervention, guidance, and emotional support to thrive alongside their peers. Key Responsibilities of the role:
- Provide 1:1 and small group counselling and emotional support for pupils.
- Support pupils in developing strategies to manage emotions, behaviour, and relationships.
- Work closely with teaching staff to ensure pupils can successfully access mainstream lessons.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families, and staff.
- Identify barriers to learning and contribute to support plans.
- Liaise with external agencies where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records of interventions and pupil progress.
- Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive LINK provision environment.
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience of working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH needs within a school or educational setting.
- Relevant qualification in counselling, mental health, youth work, or similar in addition to knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
- Training in therapeutic approaches (e.g. CBT-informed strategies, mentoring, ELSA, THRIVE, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with pupils.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- An understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
- The ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
- A strong commitment to inclusion and supporting vulnerable learners.
