Rotageek started as a small side project when our CEO, an A&E doctor, wanted to improve scheduling in his hospital department. Today, we’re reinventing how employees are scheduled by helping organisations ditch manual paper and spreadsheet-based methods in favour of sleek, intelligent, and interactive digital rotas. Our unique approach to workforce management helps employees improve their work-life balance by giving them more ownership over their hours while decreasing operational costs and simplifying processes for their employers. We use intelligent technology to ensure the right staff are available to meet complex demand considerations through rotas which are simple to create, modify, and distribute.

The role

Our Engineering Managers at Rotageek are responsible for leading high-performing engineering teams that deliver reliable, scalable, and maintainable software aligned with business goals. This is a hybrid role that combines people leadership with hands‑on technical contribution.

You will be a technically credible leader who actively supports your teams through coaching, decision‑making, and practical involvement in delivery, while also creating the conditions for individuals and teams to thrive.

This role also has a strong customer‑facing and consultative dimension. As well as leading core product delivery, you will work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to shape, plan, and deliver customer‑specific workstreams that sit alongside the product roadmap.

What you will do

  • Lead and grow the team
  • Line‑manage, coach, and mentor engineers and QAs, supporting their professional growth and progression.
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive, and high‑trust team culture where people feel empowered and accountable.
  • Provide clear expectations, regular feedback, and performance support aligned with Rotageek’s progression framework.
  • Build a team that can scale effectively for planned delivery, including working with our nearshore partner to create burst capacity where needed.
  • Support engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and unblocking complex technical challenges.
  • Create the operating rhythm, planning discipline, and communication standards needed for teams to burst effectively for planned delivery without losing quality or control.

Rotageek teams already work across a modern technology ecosystem that includes React, React Native, TypeScript, JavaScript, ASP.NET with C#, REST and GraphQL APIs, SQL and NoSQL stores, Snowflake, Microsoft Azure, and CI/CD tooling including TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, and GitHub Actions.

How to prepare for a job interview at Breathehr

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Breathehr uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
