Aboard Sea Grown vessels plus onshore work at Sea Grown’s main site in Scarborough. Travel will also be required in the future.
Job Purpose
To support Sea Grown’s mission to lead the UK Ocean Health industry by growing sustainable seaweed and shellfish to promote healthier oceans and a better planet.
As a Trainee Marine Crew Member, you will join a growing marine team and receive hands-on training while supporting offshore vessel operations, seaweed cultivation activities and marine scientific projects.
This is an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a developing sector, work in a challenging and rewarding offshore environment, and build the foundations of a long-term career in the marine industry.

- Main Responsibilities
- Assist with vessel preparation and maintenance under supervision.
- Assist with rigging, deployment and recovery activities.
- Participate in toolbox talks and follow company safety procedures.
- Support housekeeping and maintenance of vessels and equipment.
- Undertake company-provided training and work towards relevant qualifications.
- Maintain accurate records when required.
- Support wider operational and science teams as directed.
Other duties as reasonably required by Sea Grown management.
Inter-departmental support and training will be provided as required.
Person specification
Skills & Qualifications - Essential
- Willingness to work at sea and outdoors.
- Basic IT skills.
- Ability to learn new systems.
- Valid ENG1 medical valid for a minimum of 12 months (before start).
Skills & Qualifications - Desirable
- Full Driving licence
Experience & Knowledge - Essential
- Interest in the marine environment and how Sea Grown can enhance it.
- Watersports, fishing or boating experience.
- Basic mechanical aptitude

- Development and Training
Sea Grown will provide training and support to enable the successful candidate to develop into a competent Marine Crew Member.
The postholder will be expected to actively engage with training programmes and work towards obtaining relevant qualifications.
Hours of work
Full time, up to 40 hours a week including evening, weekend and overnight work. Whilst at sea the UK Hours of Rest regulations will be observed in accordance with MSN1877(M).
