About us: We at Cerca Magnetics Limited all share a common goal: to make a real difference to people’s lives through technological innovation. If you are passionate about delivering complex, cutting-edge projects and want to play a pivotal role in bringing groundbreaking technology to market, joining our dedicated team of experts could be the ideal next step in your career.
Founded in 2020, Cerca Magnetics Limited (Cerca) works in close partnership with The University of Nottingham and Magnetic Shields Limited. Together, we have commercialised the world’s most advanced functional brain scanner — a lightweight, wearable device that uses Optically-Pumped Magnetometers (OPMs) to measure the brain’s magnetic fields. Unlike traditional scanners such as MRI, our system can be worn by both adults and children, enabling natural movement during scanning. This groundbreaking capability has the potential to transform the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of neurological conditions including epilepsy, mTBIs, and dementia.
As Project Manager, you will play a central role in coordinating and delivering key projects across the business, working closely with engineering, operations, manufacturing, research, and leadership teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and aligned with strategic objectives. This role would suit a capable mid-level Project Manager ready for their next step in a growing, technology-driven business. You will already have experience managing projects within a technical, engineering, manufacturing, or scientific environment, and be confident managing plans, timelines, risks, actions, and stakeholders while working closely with technical teams.
We are looking for a proactive, organised, and practical individual who can learn quickly, communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and bring structure to complex projects. In return, this role offers the opportunity to grow with the business and contribute directly to the delivery of pioneering neuroimaging technology that could transform patient outcomes worldwide.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of complex customer-facing and internal projects across the business.
- Support the delivery of prestigious, multi-million-pound OPM-MEG facilities and systems.
- Manage the full project life cycle from initiation and planning through to delivery, deployment and closure.
- Manage project plans, actions, risks, issues, requirements and milestones across multiple projects.
- Coordinate internal teams across sales, engineering, R&D, procurement, logistics, quality and finance.
- Support customer-facing project meetings, including preparation of updates, reports and action trackers.
- Manage internal improvement initiatives across operations and project delivery.
- Support the implementation of new systems and processes, including ERP implementation.
- Support stock, logistics, international shipping and operational planning activity where linked to project delivery.
- Work within Cerca’s ISO 9001 quality management framework and support the company’s drive towards ISO 13485 readiness.
- Improve project processes, documentation, templates and ways of working.
- Escalate risks, blockers and decisions clearly, with practical options for resolution.
Essential skills and experience:
- Around 5-7 years’ relevant project management experience in a technical, engineering, manufacturing, scientific, medical technology or similar environment.
- Experience managing complex products, systems or technical projects to agreed scope, schedule, quality and budget.
- Experience managing project plans, risks, issues, actions, requirements, milestones and stakeholder updates.
- Experience implementing systems, processes or business improvements to improve company efficiency and effectiveness.
- Experience influencing stakeholders and gaining buy-in across different teams.
- Proven ability to work creatively and analytically with a practical problem-solving approach.
- Highly organised and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong ability in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with technical teams and understand technical information.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Degree educated, ideally in an engineering, science or technical discipline.
- Relevant project management qualification, such as APM, PMP or PRINCE2.
- Experience with change projects.
- Experience with Asana PM software.
- Experience working within ISO 9001 or another formal quality management system.
- Experience with international shipping, logistics or stock movement.
- Experience in R&D, scientific instrumentation, medical technology or complex equipment delivery.
- Experience working with suppliers, customers, universities, hospitals or research institutions.
- Experience improving project templates, reporting, process documentation or project ways of working.
Personal attributes:
- Practical, organised and delivery-focused.
- Hungry, enthusiastic and keen to develop.
- Professional and credible with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving SME environment.
- Able to bring structure to ambiguous or complex work.
- Confident working across technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong team player, with a collaborative and constructive style.
- Willing to get stuck in and take ownership.
- Calm under pressure and able to manage competing priorities.
- Positive, resilient and solutions-focused.
