Main purpose of role
Highlands and Islands Students’ Association (HISA) is a membership‑led organisation, representing students to the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), including UHI Perth. The main purpose of this role is to facilitate and enhance student engagement at the UHI Perth Campus through communication with students, elected Student Officers, college staff, HISA colleagues, and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact for students at the Academic Partner, encouraging them to get involved in the Students’ Association and extra‑curricular activity.
- Support and create in‑person events.
- Support the elected Student Officers, including delivery of their manifestos and priorities.
- Engage students in the work of HISA, including Welcome and induction activities, and support to local clubs, societies, and activities.
- Manage the activities, communications, and running of the Student Voice Representative (SVR) system.
- Provide training and support for Student Voice Representatives (SVR).
- Develop wider approaches to student engagement in partnership with the colleges.
- Build relationships with key members of staff within the colleges and key external stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with other HISA staff members as required.
- Provide advice and guidance to students, including signposting to HISA, college, and external services.
- Undertake key administrative duties such as managing shared email inboxes and tracking finances.
General
- The exact responsibilities may change over time, and the postholder is required to undertake any additional duties deemed appropriate.
- Be enthusiastic advocates for student leadership and the organization’s values: Student-driven, Supportive, Sustainable, Inclusive.
- Promote a positive and professional image of the Association.
- Engage in student‑facing projects and activities as required.
- Work within relevant legislation, structures, policies, and procedures.
- Cooperate with other Association staff and Student Officers.
- Adhere to high standards of customer service and safety.
- Undertake necessary training and development and attend all meetings as requested.
- Contribute positively to the organization’s ethical and environmental ethos.
- Occasional out-of-hours work may be necessary.
- Occasional travel between campuses might be expected.
- This post undertakes regulated work with children; Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership is required.
