Real Ideas Organisational Purpose

Real Ideas Group works to solve problems and create opportunities that regenerate and support individuals to progress and flourish. We do this through four teams, each with a distinct focus. Pathways, delivering employability support; Liskeard Library, a library and cultural hub; Nature and Neighbourhoods, our consultancy service; and the Devonport Creative Quarter, growing the createch sector, creative careers, businesses and opportunities.

Liskeard Library

Liskeard Library is a thriving, rapidly developing 21st century library, cultural and community hub in the heart of Liskeard. It provides a library service, cultural opportunities and spaces supporting people to learn, grow and develop skills in SE Cornwall. The library is developing a range of offers including events, workshops, and space hire. It is also the principal home for Real Ideas Pathways’ team, who offer support directly to individuals.

Job Purpose

The Customer Experience Host is the first point of contact for everyone who visits Liskeard Library, playing a vital role in ensuring everyone is welcomed with a smile, is enabled to access books and all the facilities in the Library, including food and drink and a wide variety of programmes, events and activities. The Pathways Customer Experience Host is an important member of the Real Ideas Pathways team.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide an informative, inclusive and cheerful welcome to everyone who comes into Liskeard Library
  • Sell and check tickets, support people to access books and other standard library services, communicate what’s on in the library and encourage people to participate, provide an excellent café offer and sell related products and services.
  • Support all customers and the community to access the resources available in the library efficiently and knowledgably.
  • Provide day to day service including food and drink preparation for the ongoing café offer with excellent levels of service.
  • To support exemplary food hygiene practices.
  • As required, and with training, run simple activities for the public.
  • Answer and support general enquiries about events, activities, programmes, learning opportunities, immersive facilities and library provision.
  • Ensure the Liskeard Library is kept clean, tidy, organised and secure, including open up at the start and locking up at the end of shifts.
  • Support event/experience delivery and facilitation including set up and take down.
  • Support regular volunteers and work experience with prioritisation of library tasks where necessary answer questions from volunteers on how to undertake these tasks.
  • Work effectively with the Shift Supervisors taking day-to-day direction from the wider Real Ideas team.

Experience

Providing amazing customer experience Working in a public-facing or retail/front-of-house/café environment Serving food and drink Providing other customer facing services, for example, library services (desirable not essential) Cash handling/processing card payments Use of electronic tills/cash register Working in busy, high-pressure environments

Knowledge

Working knowledge of Health & Safety, Data Protection legislation and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults Basic Food hygiene

Skills
