Bread n Butter is a North London based social enterprise. We are food educators teaching cookery life skills whilst addressing food waste and health and social inequalities. We believe everyone should have the confidence to be able to cook for themselves and the knowledge of how to eat healthy food affordably and sustainably. Our services include cookery classes, healthy eating workshops and food waste workshops in schools and in communities. We work with children, youths, adults and families, including vulnerable adults and those with special needs.
Ideal Candidate:
- You have taught cookery at any level or you’re a foodie who understands food and is passionate about cooking from scratch and keen to pass skills on.
- You are looking for part-time work (4-8 hours a week).
- You are available to start in September/October 2025.
- You can drive and have your own car.
Job Role:
We have an opportunity to lead various community cooking classes and healthy eating workshops around the Edmonton area. You will be required to lead a variety of sessions which will include healthy eating information workshops, cooking demos and community cooking classes. Your role is to engage with the group, provide education about healthy eating, impart a passion for cooking and demonstrate cookery skills. In our community cooking classes, there will be a variety of dishes for the group to prepare and cook; you will guide and supervise them as they work with the support of an assistant. Attendees are expected to tidy up as they go along. We always cook with Halal meat and include vegetarian dishes. You will need to purchase the food for each session. We will provide you with all the recipes, information leaflets, materials and equipment for the healthy eating sessions and cooking demos. Attendees will be a mix of residents from the local area, with a maximum of 12 participants.
Timings & Duration:
The classes occur during the working week in the daytime. Our cooking classes last for just over 2 hours. You will be required to be there 15 minutes prior to set up and for 15 minutes afterwards to finish tidying up. Our healthy eating workshops and cooking demos last for 60-90 minutes.
Person Specification:
Skills:- Confident to prepare a variety of dishes using recipes supplied by us.
- Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and abilities and have a good rapport with children.
- Good at using your own initiative and can think on your feet.
- The ability to work under pressure.
- Be able to work under the guidance and direction of Bread n Butter Directors.
- Be able to supervise an assistant.
- Passion for healthy eating and home cooking.
- Up to date Food Hygiene Certificate (we can arrange this if needed).
- Basic knowledge and understanding of nutrition/healthy eating.
- Experience of food preparation either in a catering or educational setting (not essential).
- Experience of working with children, young people or adults, ideally experience of working with vulnerable adults/SEN.
- This role will require a satisfactory DBS check (we can arrange this if needed).
- The post holder must have their own form of transport.
- This role is for a sub-contractor and the holder will be responsible for their own tax and NI payments.
- Provide two recent references.
- We will provide you with all the relevant equipment and materials and the basic training required to run these sessions.
