Job Description: Publicist

Introduction:

Bread and Butter is a PR agency working in the UK across the cultural sector – from arts and music to theatre and written and spoken word, through a range of media communications, across traditional and digital media platforms.

The Bread and Butter PR team consists of five Directors, two Publicists and two Press Assistants, situated in a private office in Somerset House. We are expanding the team and are looking for a Publicist to join this busy press office.

The Publicist role is for an individual with proven experience of working across multiple client and media relationships, delivering first-class press campaigns across print, digital and broadcast media. They should have a passion for arts and culture.

All Staff:

  • Contribute creative PR ideas
  • Stay abreast of media trends and developments
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the cultural landscape
  • Attend press events
  • Maintain confidentiality

Account Handling/Client Relations:

  • Manage selected accounts of Bread and Butter PR: lead on campaign planning and coverage generation; report directly to the client; provide regular updates for the directors
  • Act as ‘team member’ on other key accounts: assist in coverage generation and planning; provide backup to the directors; provide cover for the directors in their absence
  • Managing administration connected with running accounts including maintenance of campaign documents, updates and reports
  • Creating and sticking to campaign timelines and schedules for distributing press materials
  • Manage junior team members to deliver work on specific clients as required
  • Writing, editing and distributing press materials
  • Creating and managing press lists
  • Ensuring the Bread and Butter systems and processes are running efficiently, and working with the Directors to make improvements as necessary
  • Management of and attendance at Press Events and Press Nights
  • Providing briefing notes to talent and media as required
  • Distribution of press cuttings where needed
  • Attendance at client meetings

Media Relations:

  • Building and maintaining relationships and contact with UK national and regional media, influencers, clients, associates and suppliers

Other:

  • Scheduling, posting and sharing content on Bread & Butter PR’s LinkedIn and Instagram where appropriate
  • Maintaining contacts on Cision where appropriate

Person specification:

  • Passionate about arts and culture
  • Minimum of three year’s experience working in Arts PR
  • Proven interest in a career in Public Relations
  • Have sound administrative skills, excellent organisation and time management
  • Have a positive attitude in their approach to all tasks and a willingness to learn
  • Have impeccable attention to detail
  • Can adapt quickly and easily when required
  • An excellent communicator, verbally and in writing
  • Can multi-task and is confident working across multiple projects with urgent deadlines
  • Flexible approach to work with ability to attend evening and weekend events as required
  • Experience in social media use is essential
  • Some experience of G Suite is desirable
  • Experience in database management, ideally Cision, is desirable

Remuneration, benefits and holiday entitlement:

  • This is a full-time position starting ideally in February or March 2025.
  • The working day is 8.5 hours of your choosing, agreed with your Line Manager, and depending on daily schedules and meetings, between the hours of 8.30am and 6.30pm. This includes an hour’s lunch break.
  • Salary: £35,000 – £40,000, dependent on experience.
  • Holiday: 25 days plus statutory bank holidays
  • Bread and Butter PR has a flexible approach to working. You may work from the office or from home when the work allows. You will be required to cover interviews, events and meetings in person but will not be asked to attend the office on set days (unless by prior arrangement).
  • Responsible to the Directors
  • Three month probationary period, during which the notice period is two weeks
  • After three month review the notice period is three months
