BRC are currently working with a leading housing provider who are looking for an experienced Floor Layer to join their repairs and maintenance team on a temporary basis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for fitting, repairing and renewing a range of floor coverings across customers' homes, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

The Role

  • Measure, prepare and fit vinyl sheet flooring, safety flooring and vinyl tiles.
  • Prepare floors using latex or plywood where required.
  • Measure and fit carpet, underlay and gripper rods.
  • Fit vinyl flooring in wet rooms, including cap and cove systems.
  • Carry out minor repairs to carpet, laminate, vinyl, stair nosings and treads.
  • Identify and resolve flooring issues and potential trip hazards.
  • Provide customers with appropriate choices of floor finishes.
  • Order materials, arrange deliveries and book appointments with customers.
  • Complete works within required timescales and aim to complete repairs first time.
  • Accurately record work undertaken, hours, materials and costs.
  • Produce quotes for flooring works, including labour and materials.
  • Use schedules of rates for job costing and updating repair orders.
  • Ensure all works comply with relevant health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
  • Work professionally and provide a high-quality service to customers.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Floor Layer or similar role.
  • Demonstrable experience fitting a variety of floor coverings within domestic environments.
  • Experience with carpet, vinyl, laminate and safety flooring.
  • Knowledge of different grades of carpet and vinyl and their suitability for different environments.
  • Experience with wet room flooring systems would be advantageous.
  • Good understanding of health & safety, including COSHH and asbestos awareness.
  • Able to accurately record work completed, materials and costs.
  • Good customer service and communication skills.
  • Able to work to tight timescales and as part of a wider repairs team.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel between properties.
  • Comfortable undertaking physically demanding work.
