Youth Development Worker
LOCATION: St Austell, Cornwall
SALARY: £15.34 + holiday pay
DURATION: Temporary until end September
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week –
Shifts between 8am – 8pm, Monday to Sunday
About The Role:
We are recruiting a Youth Development Worker to join a supported accommodation service in St Austell, helping young people experiencing homelessness to build confidence, develop life skills, and move towards independent living.
The service takes a strength-based approach, encouraging young people to aim high, build their independence, and work towards their ambitions.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team supporting young people in a supported living accommodation, with occasional short periods of lone working.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one key worker support to young people aged 16–25.
- Develop and review support and action plans tailored to individual goals.
- Update and manage risk assessments and risk management plans.
- Support young people with tenancy and housing management.
- Assist with benefits applications (e.g., Universal Credit, PIP, Housing Benefit).
- Guide young people in budgeting, paying bills, and managing finances.
- Explore and support pathways into education, training, and employment.
- Collaborate with external agencies (mental health, domestic violence services, landlords, etc.).
- Help young people prepare for independent living and successful move-on.
- Adapt communication styles to provide person-centred, creative support.

Essential:
- Ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people
- Determination to achieve the best outcomes for young people
- Understanding of safeguarding, emotional wellbeing, and mental health
- Knowledge of support planning
- Understanding of risk assessment and risk management
- Full UK driving licence
- Full Enhanced DBS on the update service
