With NO REQUIREMENT FOR WEEKEND WORKING, what will a typical weekday look like for a Workshop Controller? Typically, on any given weekday you’ll be:

  • Efficiently allocate work to technicians based on skillset, productivity, and workshop demand
  • Drive workshop productivity by maximising utilisation and minimising downtime
  • Proactively manage all work in progress to ensure a smooth and timely workflow
  • Ensure all vehicles are completed within agreed timeframes to meet customer expectations
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, minimising rework and ensuring quality control
  • Provide clear and timely communication to the Service team on job progress and updates
  • Monitor technician performance, supporting development and addressing underperformance where required
  • Liaise effectively with the Parts department to ensure timely availability of required components
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations and workshop standards
  • Maintain an organised, efficient workshop environment to support optimal operational flow

What sort of skills and experience do you need to work in one of our workshops? Ideally, you will be a certified level 3 Technician, with a full UK driving licence, ideally with at least 2 years’ experience in this or a similar brand, although this isn't essential. In addition to your prior experience, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
  • A strong customer service focus with the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Outstanding organisation and time management skills with the ability to work to deadlines
  • A commitment to the Brayleys Guiding Principal of treating all visitors to our business, as they would a valued guest in our own homes

If level 3 technician qualification isn’t quite your background, but you are interested in getting started in the automotive repair industry, please do still get in touch with us as we have plenty of apprenticeship opportunities available for you to start your career.
