Procurement Manager
Office based in Bexleyheath
Monday to Friday, 8:00am β 5:00pm

Our client is looking for a procurement manager to join their team in Bexleyheath. The Procurement Manager will be responsible for leading the procurement and supply chain function for the business. The role ensures the timely, cost-effective and quality-focused sourcing of components, manufactured parts, electrical systems, subcontract services, tools, equipment, PPE and indirect supplies required to support manufacturing, installation, modernisation, repair and service operations.
The postholder will improve supplier performance, strengthen purchasing controls, reduce supply chain risk and support margin improvement through robust negotiation, spend analysis, supplier management and effective inventory planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement Strategy
β’ Develop and implement a procurement strategy aligned to operational, commercial and financial objectives.
β’ Liaise with sales and projects teams when contracts are awarded, ensuring that the procurement of materials aligns with the cost make up and ensuring there is no overspend on purchases.
β’ Identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve supplier terms and enhance gross margin.
β’ Establish clear purchasing processes, approval controls and procurement best practice across the business.
β’ Monitor supplier markets, commodity trends, lead times and wider supply chain risks.
Supplier Management
β’ Source, evaluate, appoint and manage suppliers, manufacturers, subcontractors and specialist service providers.
β’ Build strong commercial relationships with key suppliers of equipment, components and installation materials.
β’ Negotiate pricing, rebates, payment terms, warranties, service levels, delivery commitments and contractual terms.
β’ Implement supplier performance reviews covering cost, quality, delivery, responsiveness, compliance and sustainability.
β’ Manage supplier escalations, quality concerns, shortages and commercial disputes through to resolution.
Purchasing and Supply Chain Operations
β’ Ensure materials, components and services are procured in line with manufacturing schedules, installation programmes and project requirements.
β’ Work closely with installation, manufacturing, engineering, service, sales and finance teams to forecast demand and plan procurement activity.
β’ Minimise stock shortages, excess inventory, obsolete stock and avoidable expedited freight costs.
β’ Oversee purchase order accuracy, goods receipting discipline and supplier invoice query resolution.
β’ Support international sourcing, import logistics and shipment tracking where required.
Commercial and Cost Control
β’ Prepare, monitor and report procurement savings, cost avoidance and purchase price variance.
β’ Provide supplier pricing and lead-time input for tenders, project budgets and value engineering activity.
β’ Analyse spend data to identify consolidation, standardisation and negotiation opportunities.
β’ Ensure procurement decisions support project margin, working capital and cash flow objectives.
β’ Challenge supplier increases and obtain alternative options where commercially appropriate.
Governance, Quality and Compliance
β’ Ensure procurement activity complies with company policies, delegated authority levels and financial controls.
β’ Maintain accurate supplier records, purchasing documentation, contracts and approval evidence.
β’ Ensure suppliers and subcontractors meet relevant quality, health and safety, environmental and insurance requirements.
β’ Support ISO, audit and supplier assurance requirements where applicable.
β’ Promote ethical, transparent and non-discriminatory procurement practices.
Leadership and Continuous Improvement
β’ Lead, coach and develop procurement team members, setting clear objectives and performance expectations.
β’ Drive continuous improvement in procurement reporting, systems, supplier communication and purchasing controls.
β’ Promote a proactive, commercially focused and service-led culture within the procurement function.
β’ Undertake any reasonable duties consistent with the role and business needs
Essential Skills & Knowledge
β’ Minimum 5 years experience in procurement, buying or supply chain management, ideally in a technical environment
β’ Experience in manufacturing, engineering, construction, building services, lift and escalator, or industrial equipment sectors
β’ Strong negotiation, supplier management and contract review capability
β’ Good commercial awareness with the ability to understand margin, budgets and working capital impact
β’ Confident user of ERP/MRP or purchasing systems and Microsoft Excel
β’ Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills
β’ Able to work under pressure and manage competing project priorities
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
β’ Experience sourcing fabricated items, electrical systems or mechanical equipment
β’ Knowledge of installation project environments and construction supply chains
β’ CIPS Level 4 or above, or actively working towards a CIPS qualification
β’ Experience with international sourcing, import logistics and supplier framework agreements
β’ Experience supporting tenders, value engineering and project cost reviews
