Are you looking for a summer job and able to work a variety of days, ideally Friday through to Tuesday, between mid-June and end of September? We are looking to recruit a number of energetic and customer focused casual staff to work alongside our friendly Housekeeping team, to provide additional help during our very busy summer conference period. Full training will be given. You will have good listening skills, ability to take direction, and be able to work as part of a team. If shortlisted, you will be invited in for a short interview. The post will remain open until the required number of casual staff have been recruited. You must have Right to Work in the UK to be eligible for this role. We hope that selected candidates will be able to start on 18th or 19th June for the training days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a consistently high standard of cleaning service to all who use the College facilities.
  • Re-stock toiletries, change bed linen and towels, and empty bins.
  • Clean kitchen areas, inside microwaves, wipe any spillages/splashes on tiles, walls, cupboard fronts, inside oven and inside fridges, scrub and de-scale baths, tiles and showerheads, clean basins, plugholes, toilets, shower cubicles, around light switches and door handles, vacuum and mop floor.
  • Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, teaching rooms and corridor/stairwells.
  • Report any defective lighting, plumbing or heating problems to Maintenance.
  • Report any broken equipment such as vacuum cleaners.
  • Clean stairwells and remove cobwebs.
  • Ensure that all cleaning equipment is kept in good working order and carry out tasks such as emptying vacuum bags and cleaning filters.
  • Leave all mop heads, washing cloths and dusters in the locker room for laundry.

Additional Information:

  • Directions on safe working methods must be followed.
  • Compliance with safe working practices and all Health and Safety regulations and COSHH is essential.
  • Adhere to the correct procedures according to COSHH regulations when using approved chemicals.
  • Wear the uniform provided and any protective clothing supplied, ensuring that uniform is clean, tidy and well maintained.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and work within the team, providing support to colleagues and liaising with colleagues in other departments as required.
  • Be familiar with, and work in accordance with, all College’s policies and procedures.
  • Undertake any other duties or tasks as reasonably directed or requested by the Head Housekeeper or Accommodation Manager.
  • Be responsible for the security of the College when on duty, remaining vigilant at all times.
  • Observe the Fire Regulations and follow the evacuation procedures when necessary.
  • Be ready to start work, in uniform, at the time stated on the rota.
  • Eligible for a free meal when the kitchen is open.

Hours of Work:

Shifts will be offered on an ad hoc basis and agreed upon in advance. While we are unable to guarantee a set number of hours each week, a minimum and maximum range will be established. You may choose to accept or decline work based on your availability; however, we expect you to provide sufficient notice to your direct line manager if you are unable to attend a scheduled shift. You will usually be expected to start work at 7:00 am. The College Housekeeping team start at 7:00 am and end at 2:00 pm. They work 5 out of 7 days during the summer months.

Rates of Pay:

  • Under 18s: £9.38 per hour
  • Under 21 years of age (up to and including age 20): £12.16 per hour
  • 21+: £14.24 per hour
