Branta Recruitment is working exclusively with a premier mechanical and building services provider to appoint a Technical Services Manager with a strong Gas and Commercial Heating bias. Our client is a dominant force in the North East commercial FM sector and is currently experiencing a period of significant national expansion.
The Role
You will oversee a mobile workforce of 10–15 Gas and Heating Engineers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality maintenance and project works across a portfolio of schools, hospitals, and commercial office hubs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Authority: Act as the Qualified Lead / Technical Supervisor for the Gas division, providing expert guidance on commercial boiler plant, burners, and specialized heating systems.
- Compliance & Safety: Take full ownership of the company’s gas safety records, ensuring 100% statutory compliance across all contracts and maintaining the company’s Gas Safe standing.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and audit a regional team of engineers, identifying training gaps and overseeing the development of junior staff and apprentices.
- Service Delivery: Work alongside the helpdesk to ensure PPM schedules and reactive repairs are executed efficiently and to SFG20 standards.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular site-based technical audits to maintain 'first-time fix' rates and ensure the highest levels of workmanship.
The Requirements
- Technical Background: Time-served Gas Engineer with extensive experience in Commercial & Industrial Heating environments.
- Qualifications: Current ACS Commercial & Domestic Gas qualifications (e.g., COCN1, CIGA1, CORT1, ICPN1).
- Leadership Experience: Proven track record in a management or supervisory role, overseeing a team of 10+ mobile engineers.
- Standards & Compliance: In-depth knowledge of current Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations and H&S legislation.
- Mindset: A proactive problem-solver who is comfortable moving between the plant room and the boardroom to deliver technical excellence.
