We are seeking a reliable and proactive Estates & Maintenance Operative / Caretaker to support the smooth running, safety, and presentation of a busy college campus. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work, and is comfortable working both indoors and outdoors across a large site.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar estates, facilities, or campus-based role and be confident carrying out a blend of building maintenance, grounds duties, and general caretaking tasks.
Key Responsibilities- Campus & Building Maintenance
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and basic fabric tasks across college buildings.
- Support planned preventative maintenance activities as directed by the Estates team.
- Respond to maintenance requests, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and safely.
- Assist with room setups, furniture moves, and general caretaking duties.
- Grounds & External Areas
- Maintain external areas including pathways, courtyards, green spaces, and car parks.
- Undertake grounds work such as litter picking, sweeping, basic gardening, and seasonal tasks (e.g., gritting).
- Ensure the campus remains clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.
- General Estates Support
- Conduct routine site checks and report any hazards or defects.
- Support security, access control, and building opening/locking procedures when required.
- Work collaboratively with the wider Estates team to ensure high standards across the campus.
- Provide a helpful and professional service to all campus users.
- Previous experience in an estates, facilities, caretaking, or maintenance role.
- Comfortable working across a large campus and undertaking both indoor and outdoor tasks.
- Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving skills.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential).
- Willingness to support occasional out-of-hours or seasonal duties as required.
