Overview
We are recruiting for a hands-on Small Works Manager to oversee and support the delivery of minor works, lifecycle projects and compliance-driven tasks within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. This role combines technical leadership with practical involvement, ideal for someone who enjoys managing a small team while still being actively involved in the tools when required.
The Role
- You will plan, coordinate and deliver small works across electrical, mechanical and fabric disciplines, ensuring all activity meets strict compliance and safety standards.
- Alongside managing the team, you will also provide hands-on technical support, stepping in to assist with works, troubleshooting and ensuring safe, efficient delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate a small in-house team (Elec / Mech / Fabric).
- Act as a working supervisor, supporting the team with hands-on tasks when required.
- Scope, plan and deliver small works, minor projects and lifecycle tasks.
- Ensure all works meet stringent compliance, safety and quality standards.
- Produce and review RAMS, permits, method statements and technical documentation.
- Manage subcontractors and ensure performance, safety and compliance.
- Monitor budgets, timelines, materials and resource allocation.
- Act as the technical point of contact for stakeholders and site representatives.
- Maintain accurate reporting, project updates and audit-ready documentation.
Experience & Background
We are looking for candidates with strong technical and compliance experience, ideally from:
- Hard FM / Building Services
- Defence, Pharmaceutical, Petrochemical, Energy or other high-compliance sectors
- Small works / minor projects management
- Working supervisor or team-lead roles in technical environments
Essential Requirements
- Strong technical background in electrical, mechanical or building services.
- Comfortable being hands-on and supporting the team on the tools.
- Proven experience managing small works or minor projects.
- Excellent understanding of compliance, safety and permit-to-work systems.
- Ability to lead, coach and develop a small multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience in highly regulated or safety-critical environments.
- IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent safety qualification.
- AP/CP experience (Electrical or Mechanical).
