As part of the Data Infrastructure team you will support mission‑critical big‑data platforms, ensuring they are fully performant, reliable, available and secure. Your work blends development of tooling and operational support for our platforms, requiring attention to detail and curiosity about how systems work under the hood. You’ll gain a broad skill set from low‑level system tuning to general coding.

Key Responsibilities & Projects

  • Develop and maintain tooling for our data platforms written primarily in Rust and Python.
  • Manage and operate four main storage platforms:
  • Apache Solr (~2.2 PB)
  • Apache HBase (~450 TB)
  • PostgreSQL (~15 TB)
  • Kafka (~60 TB)
  • Collaborate on projects with a mix of senior and junior engineers, such as:
    • Code MapReduce jobs to validate data between multi‑TB HBase clusters, running in hours rather than months.
    • Build a Python stack to migrate production clients between clusters without downtime.
    • Build, test and deploy new HBase builds to production.
    • Create a platform for rolling out data‑management systems using Apache Airflow.
    • Deploy a disaster‑recovery solution for Hadoop on AWS.
  • Progress from supporting staging environments (3‑6 months) to fully supporting production systems (12 months).
  • Work remotely after initial 6‑12 months of training.
  • Who We Are Looking For

    • Strong interest in infrastructure and a passion for learning.
    • Hands‑on experience with Linux system administration and troubleshooting.
    • Proficient in at least one scripting language (Bash or Python).
    • Previous experience running storage systems (e.g., self‑hosted services, home labs, academia).
    • Ability to help peers and pride in the quality of your work.

    • Development experience in Python, Java, Rust, C/C++ or Go.
    • Upstream open‑source contributions.
    • Academic research in scalability, distributed systems or storage infrastructure.
    • Experience with Kubernetes (operators), Docker, CI/CD pipelines.
