The role will suit someone who is able to work within a team as well as independently on new matters; you must have a desire to establish yourself as a key player in a fast-growing area of the Brandsmiths business. As well as an interesting workload, you will be encouraged to develop business and to help in the growth of the team and the firm as a whole. There may also be secondment opportunities with our client base as required from time to time.
We work closely with a number of in-house legal teams, so in-house experience would be beneficial for any applicant, but is not essential.
About the company:
Brandsmiths is a specialist IP firm with offices in London and Manchester. Our clients include established brands such as BMW, Microsoft, Umbro, Speedo, Lacoste, YMU, Hasbro, Colgate-Palmolive, Dior, and Beverly Hills Polo Club, as well as fast growth businesses like Dirtea, Vinted and Hereweflo. In sport, we have considerable experience advising premier league teams, players and governing bodies. We pride ourselves on offering a supportive and collegiate atmosphere.
- Intellectual Property Litigation: protecting and enforcing IP rights for brands and talent.
- Commercial: working with our clients to assist them with all aspects of their day-to-day legal needs.
- Trademarks and Designs: registering and protecting trade marks and designs for household name brands.
- Litigation: applying strategy and legal knowledge to get the best results for our clients in litigation.
About the role:
We are looking for a newly qualified solicitor to take a key role in the IP litigation team. We encourage autonomy and there is room to make the role your own by getting involved in marketing, client meetings and high-quality work from the start. You will progress based on merit, with a clear path to promotion for the right candidate.
About you:
You must have top class legal, technical and soft skills. You will be expected to work proactively on cases with appropriate supervision. It would be beneficial for you to have experience in litigation and/or intellectual property matters. You will be expected to demonstrate an ability to understand basic litigation practice and procedure, as well as a solid understanding of the law relating to trade marks, copyright and design.
Personality is important at Brandsmiths. You need to easily build relationships internally and externally. You will be supervised by senior lawyers but will also be expected to supervise and mentor junior and non-qualified lawyers to assist in their development. You should be goal orientated, driven, comfortable dealing directly with clients and welcome opportunities to develop business. You will be encouraged to grow your network and, with the assistance of others in the Firm, eventually build a client base of your own. Cross-office working with our Manchester office is always encouraged.
