An established and growing architectural practice is seeking an experienced Building Regulations Principal Designer to join its Liverpool team and lead the development of a dedicated Principal Designer service. This is a rare opportunity for a senior building safety professional to build and shape a new division, supported by an experienced technical team and a strong pipeline of complex projects.
The Building Regulations Principal Designer will oversee compliance across a varied portfolio of residential, healthcare, refurbishment and remediation projects. You will work closely with architects, technologists, clients and consultants, ensuring design teams meet their duties under the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations.
The role will include:
- Acting as Building Regulations Principal Designer on complex projects
- Leading compliance strategies for higher-risk buildings
- Supporting Gateway 2 and Gateway 3 submissions
- Coordinating and maintaining golden thread information
- Reviewing designs, specifications and technical documentation
- Advising clients and design teams on dutyholder responsibilities
- Developing internal templates, procedures and compliance systems
- Supporting bids, tenders and fee proposals
- Mentoring technical staff and developing wider team capability
- Helping grow a commercially successful Principal Designer division
The successful Building Regulations Principal Designer will have:
- Previous experience working on higher-risk buildings
- Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations
- Experience acting as, or supporting, the Building Regulations Principal Designer
- A background in architecture, building control, building surveying or design compliance
- Strong client-facing and communication skills
- Experience leading, mentoring or developing technical teams
- The confidence to shape and grow a specialist service
