A leading Intellectual Property firm is seeking an Intellectual Property Paralegal to join its highly experienced Paralegal team in London. This is an excellent opportunity for an IP Paralegal with at least 12 months' experience in patent searching and patent watching to develop their career within a specialist firm. Working alongside experienced Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys, the successful candidate will gain exposure to a broad range of patent, trade mark, design and assignments work while building on their existing technical knowledge. This role offers varied and interesting work, extensive client contact and excellent long-term career development within a collaborative and supportive team.

The Intellectual Property Paralegal's Role

  • Conducting patent searches, patent watching and non-patent literature searches
  • Reviewing and analysing search results and preparing reports
  • Supporting the prosecution of patent, trade mark and design applications
  • Managing Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) national phase filings and international applications
  • Preparing and maintaining client portfolio reports
  • Managing renewals, assignments and recordal of ownership changes
  • Preparing cost estimates and assisting with billing
  • Liaising with clients, foreign associates and patent offices
  • Maintaining accurate records using the firm's IP management system
  • Assisting with legal research, due diligence and portfolio management
  • Supporting junior members of the team where appropriate

The Intellectual Property Paralegal

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • At least 12 months' experience in patent searching and patent watching
  • Previous experience within an Intellectual Property Paralegal or similar IP support role
  • A genuine interest in patents and intellectual property law
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Inprotech would be advantageous
  • A degree or CIPA, CITMA or EPAC qualification would be beneficial
