A well-established property and construction consultancy in Cambridge is looking for an Employer's Agent to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an Employer's Agent with strong Contract Administration experience to work across a varied portfolio of residential and wider development projects.

The Employer's Agent will manage projects from pre-contract stages through to completion, working closely with clients, consultants, developers, and contractors. This role would suit a confident Employer's Agent who understands contractual procedures, can manage project risk, and is comfortable leading meetings and advising clients throughout the construction process. The successful candidate will take ownership of commissions while working alongside experienced senior colleagues. You must have prior construction consultancy experience to be considered for this role.

The Employer's Agent will act as the client's representative on design and build projects, supporting schemes from procurement and contract preparation through to handover and close-out. Responsibilities include:

  • Administering building contracts
  • Issuing instructions
  • Assessing extensions of time
  • Managing change control
  • Monitoring contractor performance
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams
  • Chairing progress meetings
  • Preparing client reports
  • Monitoring programme and risk
  • Reviewing payment recommendations
  • Managing practical completion
  • Overseeing the resolution of defects

Strong Contract Administration experience is essential, as the Employer's Agent will need to provide clear and accurate contractual advice throughout each project.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Prior experience working within a construction consultancy
  • Strong Contract Administration experience
  • Experience acting as an Employer's Agent on design and build projects
  • Good knowledge of JCT Design and Build contracts
  • Experience managing projects through pre-contract and post-contract stages
  • A degree in Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • MRICS, MCIOB, MAPM, or progress towards a relevant professional qualification
  • Strong client-facing, communication, and report-writing skills
  • The ability to manage consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders
  • A commercially aware and organised approach
