The Public Law Paralegal’s role
The Public Law Paralegal will support senior fee earners and directors on a range of complex judicial review and civil liberties matters, often funded by legal aid. The role involves:
- Assisting with a caseload of public law matters involving the Home Office, local authorities, and the NHS
- Drafting witness statements, applications, and correspondence
- Attending client meetings, court hearings, and conferences
- Preparing legal aid funding applications and collating supporting evidence
- Ensuring strict compliance with file management and time recording procedures
This role will see the Public Law Paralegal work on urgent cases requiring emergency relief and be involved in litigation that reaches the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.
To be considered for this Public Law Paralegal position, applicants should have:
- A strong academic background, ideally with a Law degree (2:1 or above)
- Previous experience working as a Public Law Paralegal or in a similar role
- A demonstrated interest in civil liberties, judicial review, or immigration law
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and organisational skills
- Legal Aid Agency (LAA) experience desirable
- Public Law Immigration Accreditation preferred
Candidates should be self-motivated, highly organised, and committed to providing high standards of client care.
