A renowned, longstanding multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking an experienced Clerk of Works to join our respected team, working across a portfolio of new build residential projects across Greater London and the home counties, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-driven Clerk of Works, who takes pride in ensuring construction quality, compliance, and excellence from the ground up. You’ll join a collaborative, well-established team that delivers some of the most technically ambitious and socially important developments in the region.
The Role of the Clerk of Works
As a Clerk of Works, you’ll be responsible for carrying out regular site inspections, monitoring construction quality, progress, and compliance with drawings, specifications, Building Regulations, and warranty standards. You’ll act as the eyes and ears on site—reporting clearly and objectively, identifying defects or discrepancies, and ensuring our clients’ interests are protected at every stage.
Clerk of Works Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking regular site visits to monitor progress and workmanship on residential new builds.
- Preparing clear, detailed, and timely inspection reports with photographic evidence.
- Verifying compliance against contractual drawings, employers’ requirements, Building Regulations, and warranty provider standards.
- Identifying and reporting defects, discrepancies, and non-conformances.
- Managing snagging, de-snagging, and end-of-defect inspections with clients and contractors.
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring reports align with company QA processes.
About You / Clerk of Works background
- Membership of the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI).
- Proven experience inspecting new build residential projects.
- Excellent understanding of building regulations, construction standards, and defect management.
- Strong written communication skills and report-writing ability.
- Full UK driving licence, with flexibility to travel between sites.
