Experienced climber for the core domestic and commercial crew. NPTC qualifications essential. Full-time, based in Hove, working across Brighton, Hove and the wider Sussex.
We're looking for a climber to sit at the sharp end of the domestic crew - mature garden specimens, council-side reductions, occasional sectional fells in tight spaces. Most of what we do is climbed, not machined, so this is a role for someone who rates themselves in a tree and enjoys the craft of a clean cut.
You'll work with one or two groundsmen on most jobs, lead on method, and sign off the work when the site is clear. The crew is small, friendly, and non-political. We take care of our kit, our trees, and each other.
Responsibilities:
- Lead climbing role on domestic and commercial jobs across Sussex
- Plan and execute reductions, pollards, deadwooding, sectional fells to BS:3998
- Rigged dismantling using friction devices, porta-wraps, lowering lines
- Site-level risk assessment and crew briefing
- Mentor groundsmen and trainee climbers
- Equipment checks and basic maintenance (saws, kit, ropes)
Requirements:
- NPTC Level 2 Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue (CS38/39 equivalent)
- CS30, CS31 chainsaw tickets
- Minimum two years' full-time climbing experience
- Full UK driving licence (manual)
- First Aid at Work (or willingness to certify - we pay for it)
- Ability to read a tree and make a plan - not just follow one
