Entry-point role into the Branchwalkers crew. Hard graft, real training, clear progression to climber for the right person. Full-time, Hove-based.
Every Branchwalkers climber starts as a groundsman. There's no rushing it, and there's no shortcut. This is the role where you learn the trade β knot work, rigging, chipping, site management, reading a cut from the ground β before you put a rope on and start climbing yourself.
We train. NPTC Level 2 Tree Climbing funded after six months on the crew who've shown up and put the work in. First aid, chipper ticket, manual handling β all paid. The only things you need to bring are reliability, decent fitness, and interest in the work.
Responsibilities:
- Ground support for the lead climber: rigging lowering lines, managing ropes, clearing arisings
- Operate the chipper and ground-saw work
- Keep the site tidy throughout β not just at the end
- Traffic management and signage on roadside jobs
- Help with kit checks and van loading at start and end of day
- Progress toward climbing with on-the-job training and NPTC courses
Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence (manual)
- Physically capable β this is real manual work, outdoors, in all weathers
- Reliable β show up, on time, every day
- Interest in trees and willingness to learn
- No prior NPTC qualifications required β we'll train
