Leading global asset backed commodity trading house of Oil Major seeks a bright and dynamic Oil Products Operator to join their Central London HQ. You’ll join their Central London Global HQ working 3 days in the office and 2 days flexi working per week as standard with opportunities to additionally work remotely for up to 2 weeks every year. You’ll be joining a major global trading business with multiple global trading desks and offices including in Singapore, Geneva and Houston.

Working closely with traders, analysts, and other operators within the products team, you’ll manage the day-to-day trading operations activities for the relevant commodities. You will have exposure to the full commodity-trading lifecycle through close collaboration with the Oil & Freight Trading, Shipping Operations, Scheduling, Credit, Middle Office, Back Office, Insurance, Legal, Finance, and Contract teams. A degree of flexibility is expected to enable knowledge-sharing with various members of the operations team and to provide cover when required.

You will join their Oil Products European operations team (with some adhoc coverage of other global desks), so you’ll work across:

  • Light Ends (LPG, Naphtha, Gasoline)
  • Heavies (Fuel Oil)

Crude Oil is then traded on a separate desk, and so has a separate operations team to support, but again there are opportunities to get some experience supporting Crude. You’ll join a very established oil major commodity trading desk but equally a growing commodity trading house committed to supporting your professional development, offering a dynamic environment that values knowledge, innovation, and career progression. This position could be your gateway to becoming a Senior Operator and then Lead Operator, a Head of Operations, or pursuing new challenges across their global network.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day trading operations activities for oil commodities.
  • Manage key documentation, including pro forma invoices, vessel nominations, letters of credit, provisional and final cargo insurance, narrowing/nomination of dates and quantities, and vessel clearance.
  • Support the demurrage and cost management teams with ancillary costs such as demurrage, freight differentials, deviation costs, and dead freight, and assisting with resolutions.
  • Update the company’s position and ensuring that all systems contain the latest data for all cargoes.
  • Ensure full compliance with internal controls and external requirements (REACH, customs, etc.).
  • Liaise with inspection companies regarding cargo quality and quantity controls.
  • Manage storage locations, including stock reconciliations.
  • Work with the sanctions team to protect the company’s interests.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure the efficiency of operational activities, as well as with external stakeholders such as terminals, inspection companies, and other counterparties.

Key skills sought:

  • Typically 1-5 years experienced working in a similar European Products Operator position, ideally for another major oil trading business.
  • Strong understanding of the oil trading lifecycle and understanding of trading and shipping operations activities (e.g. cargo, time charters, voyage charters, quality and quantity controls, storage).
  • A strong understanding of REACH compliance.
  • Strong academics, including a Bachelors degree from a leading UK or international university.
  • Experience in managing storage and blending would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships both internally and externally.
  • British or Irish passport holder or hold a visa (e.g. EU Settled Status, Spousal Dependency Visa etc) allowing you to live and work in the UK without any visa sponsorship needed.
