One of the UK's leading Tier 1 contractors is looking for two experienced Senior Subcontract Buyers to join their regional Commercial and Procurement team in Yorkshire, as part of a wider investment in subcontract procurement capability.

As a Senior Subcontract Buyer, you will take genuine ownership of subcontract packages, from sourcing and tendering through to award, working closely with commercial and project teams to shape how the business goes to market across some of the UK's largest infrastructure projects. This is hands-on, high-impact procurement, not a back-office function.

Beyond the day-to-day, this is a role with real scope to grow. The business is genuinely open to developing talent, whether that means a Quantity Surveyor with strong commercial acumen looking to make the move into procurement, a Buyer ready to step up, or a Senior Buyer looking for a fresh challenge, greater impact, and a culture that actually suits how you want to work.

This role is hybrid but predominantly office-based, reflecting the business's focus on collaboration, close team working, and hands-on relationship building with colleagues and the supply chain.

Why Join?

  • Salary – £55,000 – £65,000 depending on experience
  • Car Allowance – Provided on top of salary
  • Autonomy – Genuine ownership of subcontract packages from pre-construction through to award
  • Stability – A multi-billion-pound order book and decades of trading history, offering long-term security
  • Project Scale – Exposure to some of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK
  • Development – Access to experienced professionals and genuine support for ongoing growth
  • Progression – A structured procurement function with genuine scope to grow your career

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading subcontract procurement across regional projects, from work winning and pre-construction through to construction delivery
  • Developing and issuing ITTs (Invitations to Tender), driving robust bid and tender processes with supply chain partners
  • Producing and negotiating subcontracts under NEC3 and NEC4 frameworks, including bonds and warranties
  • Building and managing a structured, accredited regional supply chain aligned to project demand and business strategy
  • Collaborating closely with project, commercial, and pre-construction teams to develop work package strategies and procurement schedules
  • Monitoring supply chain performance, financial health, and market trends to protect the business and identify opportunities
  • Contributing to the business's wider group procurement strategy, sharing regional market intelligence and driving continuous improvement

What We're Looking For

  • Solid experience in subcontract procurement within construction or civil engineering, or a Quantity Surveying background with strong commercial acumen and a willingness to move into a procurement-focused role
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts; JCT experience also considered
  • Proven ability to run end-to-end tender processes including ITTs, negotiations, and contract execution
  • A commercially astute mindset with a focus on value, risk, and supply chain performance rather than lowest price
  • Experience across both pre-construction and live project procurement stages
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, comfortable working across operations, commercial, and project delivery teams
  • MCIPS qualification is desirable but not essential; relevant experience and results matter most
