One of the UK's most established construction and engineering contractors is looking for a Senior Buyer to strengthen their regional team in Yorkshire. With decades of delivery across major infrastructure and civil engineering projects, this is a business with the scale, pipeline, and ambition to offer a genuinely rewarding procurement career.
Based in Yorkshire and covering a broad regional remit, you will be embedded within a dedicated Commercial and Procurement team, working across both pre-contract and construction stages. This is a hands-on, commercially driven role with real influence over subcontract strategy, supply chain development, and how the business goes to market on major bids and live projects.
If you have a background in subcontract procurement within construction or civil engineering, or you come from a Quantity Surveying background with strong commercial acumen and a solid understanding of NEC or JCT contracts, this is a role worth exploring.
Why Join?
- Salary – £55,000 – £60,000 depending on experience
- Car Allowance – Included on top of the package
- Holidays – Competitive annual leave entitlement
- Pension – Company pension scheme
- Working Pattern – Hybrid working
- Scale – A major infrastructure contractor with a substantial and growing project pipeline
- Scope – Genuine end-to-end ownership across pre-contract strategy, live procurement, and supply chain management
- Progression – A structured, professionally respected procurement function with clear pathways for development
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading subcontract procurement across regional projects, from work winning and pre-construction through to construction delivery
- Developing and issuing ITTs (Invitations to Tender), driving robust bid and tender processes with supply chain partners
- Producing and negotiating subcontracts under NEC3 and NEC4 frameworks, including bonds and warranties
- Building and managing a structured, accredited regional supply chain aligned to project demand and business strategy
- Collaborating closely with project, commercial, and pre-construction teams to develop work package strategies and procurement schedules
- Monitoring supply chain performance, financial health, and market trends to protect the business and identify opportunities
- Contributing to the business's wider group procurement strategy, sharing regional market intelligence and driving continuous improvement
What We're Looking For
- Solid experience in subcontract procurement within construction or civil engineering, or a Quantity Surveying background with strong commercial acumen and a willingness to move into a procurement-focused role
- Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts; JCT experience also considered
- Proven ability to run end-to-end tender processes including ITTs, negotiations, and contract execution
- A commercially astute mindset with a focus on value, risk, and supply chain performance rather than lowest price
- Experience across both pre-construction and live project procurement stages
- Strong stakeholder management skills, comfortable working across operations, commercial, and project delivery teams
- MCIPS qualification is desirable but not essential; relevant experience and results matter most
