Our client is seeking a Transport Operator to support their team in Newcastle under Lyme with the day-to-day running of a busy general haulage operation. This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth coordination of transport activities, effective communication with drivers, compliance with transport legislation, and the delivery of excellent customer service while supporting the wider transport planning team. This role will require weekend work with on-call responsibilities.

Job Description for the Transport Operator role:

  • Support the daily operation of a busy transport department, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Monitor vehicle and driver activity, ensuring customer requirements are achieved.
  • Act as the main point of contact for drivers, providing instructions and updates throughout the day.
  • Liaise with customers, depots and internal departments regarding delivery schedules, booking queries and service updates.
  • Monitor live transport operations, responding promptly to delays, breakdowns, traffic disruptions and other operational issues.
  • Ensure compliance with UK transport legislation, including drivers' hours regulations, the Working Time Directive and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate transport records, proof of delivery documentation and driver paperwork.
  • Assist with vehicle scheduling, resource planning and the coordination of subcontractors when required.
  • Escalate operational issues where necessary and support the timely resolution of service-related concerns.

Candidate Requirements for the Transport Operator role:

  • Must have proven experience in a transport operations / coordination role
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance
  • Be able to plan under pressure and adapt quickly to changes
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Must be a team player
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with drivers, customers and internal teams
  • Problem-solving skills

This role would suit candidates with the following experience: Transport Operator, Transport Coordinator, Logistics Coordinator, Transport Administrator, Traffic Operator, Fleet Coordinator, Driver Coordination

Hours:

Working shift patterns 5 over 7 days within the hours of 6:00 am – 6:00 pm (overtime available)

Salary:

£28,000 Per Annum
