Our client is seeking a Transport Planner to support their team in Newcastle under Lyme with general haulage operations across the UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning vehicle and driver schedules, ensuring efficient resource utilisation and maintaining excellent service levels for a major contract.

The Transport Planner will be required to liaise with customers, drivers and internal departments to manage delivery schedules, respond to operational issues and ensure all transport activities remain compliant with UK legislation. This role will require weekend work with on-call responsibilities.

Job Description:
  • Plan, coordinate and optimise daily and weekly transport schedules within a busy general haulage operation.
  • Allocate vehicles and drivers efficiently to maximise fleet utilisation and meet customer service requirements.
  • Liaise with customers, distribution centres, depots and internal teams to manage workload and delivery schedules.
  • Monitor live transport operations and respond promptly to issues such as delays, vehicle breakdowns and driver availability.
  • Ensure full compliance with UK transport legislation, including drivers' hours, the Working Time Directive and tachograph regulations.
  • Communicate regularly with drivers, providing clear instructions and information for routes and deliveries.
  • Coordinate the use of subcontractors where necessary, maintaining service standards and cost efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Transport Operations Manager to support with reducing costs and enhance service performance.
  • Maintain accurate transport records.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Must have proven experience in a transport planning role.
  • Experience with planning for large contracts.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance.
  • Be able to plan under pressure and adapt quickly to changes.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and ideally have used Transport Management Systems.
  • Team player.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

This role would suit candidates with the following experience: Transport Planner, Road Transport Planner, Logistics Planner, Haulage Planner, Fleet Planner, Traffic Planner.

Hours: Working shift patterns 5 over 7 days within the hours of 6:00 am - 6:00 pm (overtime available).

Salary: GBP35,000 - GBP37,000 DOE Per Annum.
