Our client is seeking a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager who will be responsible for leading, developing and embedding the health, safety and environmental agenda to ensure a safe and secure environment which operates in line with relevant legislation.
The post holder will act as lead manager and responsible person for Health & Safety across the organisation (over two sites), providing expertise and guidance on all health and safety matters.
They will be responsible for developing and implementing sustainability, environmental and energy strategies.
- Job Description for the Health & Safety and Environmental Manager role:
- To promote a positive and proactive approach to the health, safety and environmental agenda
- Act as lead manager and responsible person for all H&S
- To ensure compliance with current Health and Safety legislation and best practice.
- To promote a positive H&S culture across the organisation, providing advice, guidance and enforcement on H&S matters, including ensuring safe systems of work are in place to minimise risk to all on site
- To source, interpret and apply new legislation, approved codes of practice and other forms of Health and Safety guidance, including how they will impact services and how to implement organizationally
- To provide expert advice, guidance and support to managers and team leaders in the completion of risk assessments.
- To lead on the identification, investigation and analysis of H&S incidents or breaches in legislation.
Ensuring any work–related injury, disease and dangerous occurrence are reported to the Health and Safety Executive within the appropriate timescales
- To develop and implement H&S–related audit and inspection programmes to demonstrate compliance across the organisation.
Liaise with teams to identify learning and establish improvement initiatives.
- Design and deliver Health, Safety and Fire training for staff across all sites
- Undertake a regular programme of premises inspections, including adequacy of fire safety arrangements
- To provide H&S reports to the Director of HR & Support Services for submission to the Board of Trustees
- Chair and manage the SHE meetings with departmental representatives and Fire Marshall Meetings
- Candidate Requirements for the Health & Safety and Environmental Manager role:
- NEBOSH level 6, IOSH certification or Technical HND qualification
- Proven experience of a previous H&S Manager role (ideally min of 3 years)
- Strong H&S knowledge of up–to–date legislation
- Knowledge of COSHH legislation
- Experience of identifying service needs
- Budget management experience
- Valid UK driving licence
Hours
Monday to Friday: 9:00 am 5:00 pm, 37.5 hours per week
