The predicted salary is between 21500 - 25800 £ per year.
We are currently recruiting either a full-time or part-time Healthcare Assistant. Minimum commitment if part-time is 20 hours per week. We are also recruiting for bank/fixed terms posts. Please see our Bank Healthcare Assistant post to apply.
Hours of work are between 8am-6.30pm Monday-Friday with Saturday mornings on a team rota basis. Applicants must have previous Healthcare Assistant experience including phlebotomy. We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive the required amount of applicants.
Main duties of the job:
- Working under the direct supervision of the lead practice nurse(s) and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.
- Assisting the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
- Working within established systems of clinical governance.

We are a 6 partner semi-rural dispensing and training practice serving approximately 16,700 patients operating over 2 sites on Brampton along with Corby Hill and Wetheral.
Job responsibilities:
- Support health promotion and prevention activities, including smoking cessation, weight management, and lifestyle interventions.
- Work within a Multi-Disciplinary Team to support patients with long-term conditions and health inequalities.
- ECG recording.
- Assist with Learning Disability and Mental Health annual reviews.
- Play a key role in vaccination and immunisation programmes.
- Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses.
- Maintenance of surgical equipment.
- Cleaning of clinical areas within remit of role.
- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording.
- Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation.
- Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms.
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations.
- Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.
- Observing infection control procedures and protocols to protect patients, colleagues and themselves.
Other Tasks:
To undertake any other reasonable duty commensurate to the position that is requested.
Person Specification:
- Ability to cover a shift pattern between practice operating hours.
- Car Driver Clean Licence or ability to travel between sites.
- Qualifications: Qualified in venepuncture, Care certificate or willingness to undertake and complete within 3 months of commencing in post.
- Good standard of general education GCSE grades or equivalent including English and Maths Grade 4 and above.
- NVQ 3 in healthcare.
- Previous experience of working in a HCA role.
Experience:
- Relevant experience in health promotion, prevention, and supporting long-term condition management.
- Previous experience within a General Practice or health care role.
- Experience in EMIS Web.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Good written communication skills, clear concise record keeping.
- IT Skills.
- Time management, able to prioritise and organise own workload.
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality policy.
- Understanding of local and national policies for primary care, including QOF.
