We’re looking for a senior operative / Production Lead to join our on-site solution at the Tesco site in Thurrock. It’s the perfect opportunity to take the next step in your career into a management role. The role will include hands-on operational work with scheduled time to build your skills in management, including time working on H&S, Quality, and managerial skillsets.
CHEP manages a large pallet pool rented out to customers, with operations focused on repairing and maintaining pallets. The primary purpose of the role is to lead a shift of 11 staff over a Monday to Friday schedule, rotating 0600-1400 and 1400-2200. You’ll promote continuous improvement, safety, and quality metrics while providing leadership to your team. You’ll also build and maintain good relations with third-party management teams on site.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising, developing, and coaching employees to maintain good relationships with third-party management teams.
- Driving continuous improvement through systemic change based on data and root cause analysis.
- Owning and controlling all quality-related issues on the shift.
- Fostering a zero-harm culture within the site/shift.
- Conducting tours using the 1-CHEP Management Observation Tool (MOT).
- Leading root cause analysis of incidents occurring on shift.
- Sharing knowledge across business areas and recognizing necessary change.
- Adapting and learning in new situations.
- Controlling yard and warehouse movements, delegating tasks to FLT drivers.
- Holding daily shift briefs and reporting plant KPIs.
- Monitoring and responding to safety and production KPIs promptly and effectively.
- Owning safety, quality, and production controls.
- Monitoring employee holidays and absences in accordance with company policies.
- Deputising for the Site Lead in their absence.
Requirements include:
- Experience in lean-based/CI operational roles is advantageous.
- At least 3 years in production, manufacturing, or logistics environments.
- Experience in quality-focused environments and familiarity with quality standards.
- Success working within a matrix structure.
- Strong numerical and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized, proactive, self-motivated, and persistent.
- Good coaching, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of quality principles.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Leadership, project management, and change management capabilities.
