Brakes are recruiting for a Canteen Assistant to join the team at our Ashford office on a Full Time, Permanent basis. As a Canteen Assistant you are responsible for supporting the smooth and efficient operation of kitchen activities. This role involves maintaining cleanliness and organization, assisting with food preparation, and ensuring adherence to safety and hygiene standards. This position works under the direction of senior kitchen staff and contributes to a positive and productive kitchen environment. This is a full-time position of hours per week, working Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 3:30pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Wash dishes, cookware, and utensils
- Remove kitchen waste and maintain proper waste disposal
- Assist with basic food preparation tasks, such as washing, peeling, chopping, and measuring ingredients
- Stock organisation
- Receive and store deliveries
- Adhere to safety and hygiene standards, including proper food handling and storage
- Assist with setting up and breaking down workstations
- Support senior kitchen staff as needed
- Assist with serving food to customers or staff
About You:
You have a basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils, along with a clear understanding of food safety and hygiene practices. You are able to work efficiently while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. You communicate well with others, manage your time effectively, and are comfortable standing for extended periods and lifting moderate weights. Basic knife skills are preferred, and a positive, team-focused attitude is essential for success in this role.
