We have an opportunity for a Chef to work in our kitchen and canteen to serve fresh food to our colleagues and on-site visitors at our Brakes depot in Reading. If you have previous experience cooking and food handling and are currently searching for a great career opportunity and new direction – you’ll go far with us.
You’ll be responsible for preparing food ingredients, assisting in the cooking process and maintaining a clean and sanitary food preparation area. On a typical shift, you can expect to be cooking simple meals for up to 150 internal colleagues. This is a varied role where you will be able to assist in the planning of menus, setting up catering events as and when necessary and rota organisation. You’ll undertake cashier duties and be responsible for operating a till for contactless payments. We work as a team to all undertake cleaning and washing up in the kitchen and dining areas.
As Canteen Chef, you will need previous kitchen experience in cooking and food handling in a fast-paced, time-pressured commercial kitchen environment. You will require an ability to pick new skills up quickly both in the kitchen and on a computer using Microsoft Office. If you have excellent customer service skills along with an awareness of level 3 in Food Safety Supervision for catering and a level 2 HACCP, we want to hear from you. Previous card payment experience would be advantageous but don’t worry, it is not essential and we can teach you the basics required for the role. You’ll have a desire to learn and understand more about the business; approaching tasks with both an ability to think on your feet for problem-solving and a positive can-do attitude.
This is a great role that offers the opportunity for progression within a large organisation. In addition to a competitive monthly salary, 25 days annual leave (including statutory) and company pension, you can also look forward to the following benefits:
- Wagestream – Access to an app that gives you early access to your earned salary and supports financial wellbeing
