Open Sesame Media is looking for a Video Systems Development Engineer to join our growing technical team. We are a group of pioneers—people who love doing things that haven’t been done before and have a deep love for music.

You will be working on our core infrastructure, the engine that powers our music vertical and our dual-use vertical. This role is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to build the future of collaboration between the creative community, helping to foster a pro-social, pro-cooperative communal experience for the entire world.

What You’ll Do

  • End-to-End Transport Layer: Lead the full-cycle development of the video transport layer, ensuring valid synchronization and ultra-low latency.
  • QUIC Pipeline Integration: Integrate video into an existing, sophisticated QUIC pipeline that currently manages audio, ensuring reliable AV synchronization.
  • Native Application Development (optional): Work hands-on with the development of native MacOS and iOS applications.
  • SDK Design: Architect and design a robust Linux SDK based on the existing SyncStage codebase to expand our platform's versatility.
  • Cross-Functional Optimization: Collaborate closely with the engineering team to analyze metrics such as latency, packet loss, and quality, with the goal of troubleshooting and improving the pipeline.

What You Will Need

  • Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience with a specific focus on video systems.
  • Languages: Proficiency in C++ is essential. (Optional: Rust, Swift.)
  • Protocols & Pipelines: Deep experience with QUIC pipelines and WebRTC. (Optional: SMPTE 2110, NDI, and JPEG XS.)
  • Video Engineering: Experience building and optimizing Video Players.
  • Experience with ABR: Adaptive Bitrate.
  • Strong knowledge of video compression standards: H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1, etc.
  • Architecture: Experience with peer-to-peer architecture, multi-server backend architecture, and AWS cloud environments.
  • Metrics & Benchmarking: A data-driven approach to video transport, with experience measuring and improving latency, quality (QoE), and packet loss metrics.
  • Linux SDKs: Experience building SDKs (specifically for Linux) is a distinct advantage.
  • Citizenship: Being a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) is a distinct advantage due to the nature of our dual-use vertical.

The Unicorn List

  • No Ego.
  • Innovator Spirit: A genuine desire to be an innovator in video transport, not just an implementer of existing standards.
  • Passion for Music.
  • Futurism: A love for holograms and next-gen visual tech.
  • Social Theory: A strong passion for ‘Social Contagion’ Theory and a sincere desire to use technology to create a pro-social, pro-cooperative world.
