We have a great opportunity for a Waste Services Manager to join our Operations team in Braintree, Essex. Taking responsibility for the operational delivery of the Council’s Waste Service, which includes refuse, recycling, commercial waste and the waste transfer station, you will support the Operations Manager in providing a clear sense of leadership, direction and purpose. Fundamental to the role is leading the development and delivery of the Council’s Waste Strategy, driving service improvements, working collaboratively with other teams within Operations to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to service delivery, managing budgets and maintaining effective working relationships with Trade Unions.
Overseeing a large operational team, you will lead on employee development and performance and proactively mentor team leaders and supervisors to manage front‑line staff effectively, including sickness absence, disciplinary and performance management. To be successful in this role you will need to have substantial knowledge and experience of waste and hold the COTC qualification. A Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage Operation is desirable, as is membership of a relevant waste professional body. You will also have knowledge of relevant legislation, experience of service planning and management in a comparable organisation. You must be an excellent communicator, enabling you to manage performance and attendance, investigate accidents and disciplinary matters and report to the Senior Management Team, Directors and Management Board on key performance reports. Strong people skills and building key relationships with the teams is an essential part of the role.
