LGV (Cat C) Bin Lorry Driver - The Role: You will drive an LGV Category C vehicle or other allocated vehicles across our district, collecting waste and recycling from residential, commercial and bring bank locations. Working with your crew Monday to Thursday 7am to 3pm and Friday 7am to 2.30pm, with occasional weekend working, you will collect all types of waste including refuse, recycling, food, garden and trade waste. You will be responsible for vehicle checks and maintenance, use electronic reporting devices to log collections, and perform loading duties alongside your crew.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive your allocated LGV Category C vehicle safely and in accordance with all Road Traffic Legislation and manufacturer instructions
- Perform daily vehicle checks, maintain your vehicle in a clean condition and report any defects
- Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed at all times, protecting yourself, your crew and the public
- Complete and report daily work accurately using electronic reporting devices, logging excess waste, obstructions and missed collections
- Carry out loading duties with your crew and assist other crews when required
- Maintain professional conduct and uphold the Council's reputation for high quality service
- Work flexibly including occasional weekends and bank holidays when service needs require
LGV (Cat C) Bin Lorry Driver - You:
- Hold a full LGV Category C (HGV Class 2) Driving Licence or above and a Drivers CPC qualification with minimum 6 months validity remaining
- Are fully conversant with regulations for commercial vehicles including tachographs, driving hours and vehicle maintenance
- Are physically fit and able to collect and load wheeled bins, bags and boxes
- Have experience working in an outdoor, physically demanding environment and in a customer-facing role
- Can work effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly and use your own initiative
- Have a positive attitude, strong health and safety awareness including manual handling knowledge, and a flexible approach to working hours
