Brainkind supports people with an acquired brain injury and complex needs such as cognitive, physical, and/or emotional difficulties, including physical and verbal aggression, impaired social functioning, and disinhibited behaviour. Our highly skilled team offer compassionate and specialised person-centred care, in a safe and modern environment. Our multidisciplinary team, led by psychiatrists and neuropsychologists, includes occupational therapists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation support workers, nurses, speech and language therapists, social workers, and therapy assistants to deliver the very best in neurological care and rehabilitation. Working collaboratively with external professionals, we ensure a holistic approach to rehabilitation and outcomes, with the people we support actively involved in reviewing their progress. We promote the involvement of families as an important part of the rehabilitation process during and after admission. As a registered hospital, Brainkind York can work with people detained under the Mental Health Act or subject to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
MAIN PURPOSE
To contribute to and have responsibility for providing quality social and vocational support services for service users within a specified group at a specified location or group of locations. To lead, supervise and develop a team of support workers to ensure the needs of the service users are met according to their individual support plan in line with company policy and procedures and regulatory standards.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Team Leader is expected to be fully competent in all aspects of the Support Worker.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders in order to complement and contribute to the positive reputation of the company.
- Provide line management to a designated team of staff within a specified group at a location or group of locations within the allocated division.
- Undertake any reasonable travelling requirements in order to fulfil the tasks and responsibilities of the role. This may include supporting other locations within the Division as required.
- Set and communicate high standards of care and professional conduct within the team supervised.
- Lead and support compliance with Brainkind quality audits.
- Lead and support in health and safety duties as appropriate.
- Contribute information for the accurate notification of incidents/accidents/safeguarding as appropriate.
- Represent Brainkind at meetings and seminars and any other external events, where appropriate.
- Contribute to effective liaison with stakeholders and external agencies with local authorities, families, advocates, GPs, local safeguarding teams, other DT departments and professionals within the realms of Health and Social Care that have an impact on service provision in consultation with senior colleagues.
- Monitor and be responsible for the day-to-day spending at the location, to include Trust and service user monies.
- Empower staff and service users to maintain a homely environment.
- Plan and organise in advance staff rotas to include annual leave, training and an appropriate skills mix, ensuring that the staff rota complements service user needs and individual programmes and meets contractual obligations to commissioners.
- Ensure Administration of Medication is effectively managed, audited, ordered and stored in line with individual service user requirement and Brainkind Policy and Procedures.
- Be responsible and manage in line with local procedures various resources e.g. Walkie Talkies, location keys, iPad and mobile phones etc.
- Contribute to the recruitment, selection and induction of support staff.
- Supervise, appraise, develop and train within a designated group of support workers.
- Contribute to, attend, plan and participate in staff meetings as appropriate.
- Contribute to, monitoring and facilitation of training.
- Comply and contribute to staff management, including capability, grievance, attendance and discipline, including where appropriate the accurate and timely completion of staff timesheets.
About you:
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and internet use.
- NVQ / QCF level 3 HSC or willingness to work towards within 12 months.
- Previous experience of working in a care setting.
- Knowledge of current relevant legislation relating to care standards, health and safety and food hygiene.
- Demonstrate ability to be flexible and adaptable in approach, being able to prioritise, plan and organise the workload.
- Demonstrating a customer-focused approach and a professional attitude.
- IT skills including the ability to open and send emails using Outlook, the ability to use Microsoft Office and the ability to navigate the internet.
