Brainkind is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people with brain injury in the UK. The West Heath House service works with people coping with cognitive, physical and emotional symptoms following severe brain injury, delivering neurobehavioural rehabilitation to enable independent functioning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy input within the Brainkind Neurobehavioural model to service users with acquired brain injury (ABI), leading OT provision within the service.
  • Work autonomously within a specialist clinical area, managing a caseload of service users with complex mental/physical health needs and/or challenging behaviour.
  • Use evidence‑based, service‑user‑centred principles to assess, formulate a treatment plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • Address occupational performance and skill deficits in areas of self‑maintenance, productivity, education and leisure.
  • Develop programmes of care, ensure detailed handover to support workers or therapy assistants, monitor progress through data collection, evaluate and modify treatment as required.
  • Collaborate with service users, family/carers and outside agencies sensitively and flexibly, maintaining integrity in all communications.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registered with the HCPC.
  • Specialist knowledge of OT interventions in ABI (e.g., cognitive rehabilitation, upper limb rehabilitation).
  • Experience working with neurological deficits or acquired brain injury, including management of complex dysphagia within an adult neurology caseload.
  • Minimum 4 years post‑registration, with at least 2 years experience working with neurological conditions.
  • Valid UK driving licence and willingness to drive service users in unit vehicles.
