Salary: £28,392 per annum

Hours: 35hrs per week (This is a fixed term contract until 31st August 2027)

Brainkind's Award-Winning Brain Injury Linkworker (BIL) Service is delighted to advertise for an Assistant Psychologist Brain Injury Linkworker to join our team at HMP Swansea. The BIL neurorehabilitation services are currently located in three prisons across Wales. This is a hybrid working position with travel to HMP Swansea for 3-4 days a week and working from home 1 day per week.

The Brain Injury Linkworker role, which sits in the Brainkind Policy & Social Change Team, works with adult men in prison and on probation under the supervision of a clinical psychologist. The successful candidate will be responsible for specialised assessment and support of people in prison with acquired brain injury and undertake data collection for research purposes. He or she will work in partnership with prison staff and external organisations within the prison and community to support service users to access appropriate services.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To work in HMPPS and receive remote clinical supervision and guidance from a Clinical Psychologist, Programme Manager, and Project Support Officer.
  • To work as part of a team of assistant psychologists and clinical psychologists to develop resources for the Brain Injury Linkworker Service.
  • To support and manage a complex and varied caseload of individuals within the Criminal Justice System.
  • To administer the Brain Injury Screening Index (BISI) to identify individuals that screen positive for an ABI and complete an assessment of needs to develop an Individual Support Plan (ISP) and planned release (or resettlement plan) for each service user.
  • To ensure each Individual Support Plan is appropriately designed to complement existing Healthcare and other relevant goals.
  • To implement and review Individual Support Plans with the service user and under supervision ensuring individual needs and preferences are placed at the centre of the process.
  • To complete further assessment, develop formulations and provide neuropsychological interventions as agreed within clinical supervision.

About You

  • An upper second class or first class honours degree in psychology.
  • An understanding of the needs of people with brain injury and mental health difficulties and the ability to engage people in psychological therapy.
  • Experience of working with people with complex needs.
  • Experience of delivering 1:1 psychological interventions.
  • Experience of collection and analysis of statistical data.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information.
  • Willingness to work within a prison setting.
  • Willingness to comply with all security and confidentiality aspects of working within a secure environment.
