Hours: 35hrs per week (This is a fixed term contract until February 2028.)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Brain Injury Linkworker at Approved Premises (Liverpool & Ellesmere Port). Please note this job is for female applicants only. Our Brain Injury Linkworker, who will be part of the Brainkind Policy & Social Change Team, will work with adult women in prison in the criminal justice system. The project is funded by NHS Health and Justice England to expand the service into seven sites across the Northwest of England. This is a unique role, working across the criminal justice system and Brainkind to provide brain injury screening and support. Please note Brainkind was formerly The Disabilities Trust.

The successful candidate will be responsible for specialised assessment and support of women in prison with acquired brain injury and undertake data collection for research purposes. The Linkworker will work in partnership with prison staff and external organisations within the prison and community to support individuals to access appropriate services and reduce offending behaviour.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To work remote from the supervision and guidance from a Clinical Psychologist, a Programme Manager, and a Project Support Officer.
  • To support and manage a complex and varied caseload of individuals within the Criminal Justice System that screen positive for a brain injury and/or have history and sequelae of an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), under clinical supervision from Brainkind.
  • To administer the Brain Injury Screening Index (BISI) to identify individuals that screen positive for an ABI and complete an assessment of needs to develop an Individual Support Plan (ISP) and planned release (or resettlement plan) for each service user.
  • To ensure each Individual Support Plan is appropriately designed to complement existing Healthcare and other relevant goals.
  • To implement and review Individual Support Plans with the service user and under supervision ensuring individual needs and preferences are placed at the centre of the process.
  • When agreed and directed under supervision; to undertake assessments including psychometric test and neuropsychological assessments if needed, develop formulations and provide any interventions as agreed within supervision.
  • To develop and deliver Psychosocial interventions on a 1:1 basis, focusing on the sequelae of brain injury.

ABOUT YOU:

  • An upper second class or first class honours degree in psychology.
  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with psychological problems or other disabilities (e.g. acquired brain injury) and the ability to interact with these individuals.
  • Experience of working with people with complex needs.
  • Experience of delivering 1:1 behavioural interventions.
  • Experience of collection and analysis of statistical data.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
  • Willingness to work within a prison setting.
  • Willingness to comply with all security and confidentiality aspects of working within a secure environment.
