Intelligent, influential, and focused Trustee wanted for a game-changing yet embracing charity.

Location: Remote

Department: Chief Executive

Salary: Voluntary

Appointment is for a 3-year term with the potential to serve 2 additional terms.

Brain Tumour Research is a powerful campaigning organisation and the leading voice of the brain tumour community in the UK. It is the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. Our work aims to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year and fund seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK. Brain tumours cause more deaths among children and adults under 40 than any other cancer, yet only 1% of the UK's cancer research funding since 2002 has been allocated to this disease. We are passionate about changing this and finding a cure.

About the role

We seek to strengthen our Board of Trustees with members experienced in charitable fundraising, income generation, campaigning, and policy. Trustees will help ensure the charity's sustainable growth, contribute to strategic planning, oversee governance standards, and scrutinise processes and decisions.

This is a voluntary role with quarterly in-person Board meetings in Milton Keynes and three to four online sub-committee meetings annually. Trustees will attend an annual Board away day and participate in research workshops, receptions at our Centres, and parliamentary events. Opportunities for structured learning and development are also available.

Skills and experience required

Applicants should have board or senior leadership experience, with significant expertise in charitable income fundraising and/or campaigning and policy, preferably within the charity sector. Effective communication, strategic thinking, creativity, and collaboration are essential qualities.
