The successful candidate will be taught to identify asbestos in building material samples within our busy UKAS accredited laboratory. The work requires patience, concentration and microscope use. Full training will lead to a nationally recognised qualification. The role also requires commitment to study and laboratory skill development to pass written and practical exams.

Person Specification

  • 5 GCSEs including Maths and English
  • Demonstrable administrative experience
  • Seeking a long‑term career with the company (not temporary work)
  • Good eyesight with or without glasses and good colour vision
  • A laboratory or scientific background and microscope experience is an advantage but not essential
  • Computer literate with Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to adapt to online systems
  • Good attention to detail, organised and able to interpret technical data

What We Can Offer You

  • The hours are 20 hours per week Monday to Friday from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
  • Training rate of £13.01 per hour rising to £14.00 once qualified and authorised and then to £14.49 upon achieving the Laboratory Key Performance Indicator.
  • Company paid healthcare (long service award applies at 3 and 5 years)
  • A company pension, 3% of qualifying earnings contributed
  • 22 days of annual leave (award at 3 and 5 years)
  • An additional day of annual leave on birthday or nearest working day
  • Paid statutory bank holidays (8)
