Following the success of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture, we have recently re-opened our venue space in the city centre, Loading Bay – home to two performance spaces and a gallery. The Beacon welcomed tens of thousands of people as it travelled across Bradford District in 2025, and this year it takes up residence in Bradford South in Wibsey Park throughout August, and will play host to a range of family‑friendly events, as well as comedy, live music, performance and play, in the summer holidays.

We are looking to expand our pool of freelancers and are specifically looking for lighting technicians to work on a freelance basis across both venues.

Key responsibilities:
  • Assist with get‑ins and get‑outs, unloading and loading vehicles of equipment.
  • Assist or carry out all aspects of Lighting/Sound and Stage related activity during get‑ins, fit‑ups, rehearsals, performances and get‑outs, in our spaces and elsewhere for visiting and in‑house productions, performances and events, as directed by the Technical Managers.
  • Assist in the maintenance of lighting and electrical equipment ensuring they are maintained and tested according to Bradford Culture Company standard operating procedures.
  • Work as a technician with show duties when required and on occasions facilitate appropriate cover for other members of staff, during annual leave and scheduled days off, which may include Duty Stage Managing performances.
  • Pro‑active in assisting the Venue Technical Manager in the running of shows in the venues.
  • Professional technical lighting experience within a performance venue including rigging and desk.
  • Knowledge of theatre or performance venue technical systems, namely ETC EOS lighting desks. Both venues run ETC ION XE20s.
  • Experience of liaising confidently with a wide range of companies, performers and the internal Bradford Culture Company team.
  • Experience of working in temporary event spaces and sites.
  • Ability to interpret and implement technical drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge and experience of working on a variety of events in the cultural sector.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and work calmly under high pressure environments.
  • Strong communication skills.
