New Choices is a new company owned by Bradford Council. New Choices delivers day services and support to approximately 283 people across the district in 19 locations and is supported by 189 staff. This is a very exciting time for learning disability services in Bradford as New Choices will be transforming the way in which day services operate. New Choices has a vision to give people the support and skills they need to achieve their aspirations and outcomes and to be co‑contributors to their local communities. Role Summary
The role holder will support people with learning disabilities to the highest standard and in line with their support plan, cultural needs and wishes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care, including toileting and bathing, when required, in line with the support plan.
- Encourage and help people make choices and life decisions in line with the Mental Capacity Act.
- Assist with everyday home, social, leisure and work‑related activities, according to the individual’s choice.
- Support people with health needs, such as taking medication and liaising with carers if they are unwell or have changing health needs.
- Keep accurate and up‑to‑date records using internal IT systems.
- Assist with finances when accessing daytime opportunities with New Choices, in line with company guidelines.
- Promote health, safety and well‑being of the people we support.
- Work positively with colleagues, families and external organisations and professionals.
- Explore opportunities to use Personalised Technology to increase people’s independence.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Improve the support provided by discussing new ideas.
- Participate in learning and development opportunities as required.
- Complete Safeguarding Adults training and understand how, when, and who to report concerns.
- Adhere to New Choices Health and Safety policies, standards and guidelines at all times.
- Perform any other duties as specified from time to time in accordance with business requirements.
