Assistant Area Manager – Libraries. Works within Kirklees Libraries, a mission to provide inclusive and accessible services and spaces that enrich the lives of people across Kirklees.
Key responsibilities
- Lead on at least one of the Universal Library Offers – currently Culture & Creativity or Reading – and manage related projects.
- Develop and deliver effective library services, prioritising safety, safeguarding, health & safety, and information governance.
- Analyse insight and data to support decision‑making and report on performance to senior management.
- Represent the service within the council and externally, maintaining relationships with partners, council members and community groups.
- Manage staff to create a positive working environment, set clear expectations, support development and achieve high performance.
- Collaborate with Service Manager and Area Managers on complex, time‑sensitive issues and projects.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, balancing a broad and constantly changing workload.
- Attend meetings and work on weekends and evenings as required; work across Kirklees.
Qualifications and experience
- Experience working in a library setting – essential for the role.
- Strong leadership and team‑working skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, partners and the community.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, health & safety, data‑management and information governance.
