Best Start in Life and Family Hubs Engagement Worker – Service: Family Action Perinatal Support Service – Salary: starting at £28,884, increasing to £31,698 per annum (pro‑rate for part‑time) – Location: Across the Bradford District – Hours: 37 hours per week (full‑time), flexible 4 days, 29.6 hours per week – Contract: Temporary until March 2027 (subject to funding).

Family Action & the Role’s Impact

At Family Action we support people through change, challenge or crisis. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and attend sessions across Bradford District in Family Hubs, satellite sites and community venues.
  • Engage with families to share information about the Best Start in Life programme and encourage participation in the Family Hubs and their offer.
  • Be a friendly, welcoming presence in sessions and clinics, building rapport with parents/carers and children who attend.
  • Signpost and refer families into Best Start in Life projects, Family Hub activities and Family Navigators.
  • Support families to access and navigate the Families and Young People’s information (FYI) website to find local services and events.
  • Liaise with Family Hub staff, including Family Navigators, and with Best Start in Life projects, professionals and community workers across the system and local area.

Requirements

  • Personal experience of pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting or have supported people during the first 1,001 days of a baby’s life and the pre‑school period.
  • Experience supporting families and communities, and of community engagement or outreach work, including advising and signposting.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously, with forward planning for sessions to maximise impact.
  • Good networking and engagement skills, friendly and welcoming when engaging with families, and building connections with professionals and community workers.
  • Must obtain a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check.
